Salmon Sisters x Skida | The Deep Sea Collection
Posted on 11 August 2021
Inspired by adventures on open waters, we dreamed up our new Emerald Isle and Seascape prints in collaboration with our Alaskan fishing friends, the Salmon Sisters! These girls are tough and when it comes to long days on the boat, we're proud to be the purveyors of their favorite headwear.
Our founder Corinne and Salmon Sisters co-founder Claire Neaton met while both attending college in Vermont, and the pair had been dreaming of creating something a few years ago with our Red Fish, Blue Fish Collection – our first Salmon Sisters x Skida collaboration.
We're excited to introduce two fresh designs – new exclusive colorways of our beloved Fishy Fish & Dreamscape prints – to continue to build the connection between Vermont & Alaska!
"We're mid-season in the Prince William Sound! We've fished almost every day and night since June and have been on the boat since mid-May. We haven't had much time on land but we've been grateful for the opportunity to harvest beautiful salmon and work in such a beautiful wild place. We've had a lot of stormy days and a couple sunny ones to to take off our rain gear, jump in the water and paddle board to land to hike and look for berries."
Can you describe the day you took these photos?
"One of the few sunny days we've had this season! These photos were taken aboard Salmon Sisters co-founder Emma's boat she runs with her husband Jacob (the F/V Acadian). We gillnet for Copper River and Prince William Sound salmon, and live aboard the boat all summer. On this sunny day, we were catching beautiful sockeye, keta and pink salmon and the sun stayed bright until 11pm. We sat on the roof of the boat between sets and enjoyed a watermelon from town. A good day!"
What does the Salmon Sisters x Skida collaboration mean to you?
"Skida makes our favorite headwear for every season – it's our go-to in summer while we're fishing to keep our hair back in the sea breeze and in snowy Alaskan winter for adventures in the mountains and on the cross-country ski trails. Over the years that Salmon Sisters and Skida have grown together, we have loved collaborating with another woman-owned small business that prioritizes functional and stylish gear to get more people out enjoying the great outdoors. We see Salmon Sisters x Skida styles all over Alaska now and it brings us a lot fo joy to see it in the wild."
